3.4 Odor. Towels shall have no disagreeable odor when dry or wet. To test for odor when wet, soak a single towel in distilled water at room temperature for 2 minutes. Remove the towel from water and smell the towel at a distance of 304-610 mm (12-24 inches). Any disagreeable odor shall be cause for rejection.

3.5 Surface finish and formation. Towels shall have a uniform formation and shall have a finish produced by creping or embossing.
3.6 Bleaching. To obtain an acceptable brightness, a chemical bleaching process may be used. Unless otherwise specified in the ordering data (see Section 7), the bleaching process shall not include the use of chlorine, chlorine dioxide, or hypochlorite. Certification of compliance shall be made available upon request by the Government.
